new textiles from dermond peterson!!! we're so excited to get some new designs in from this great sister-duo. just in time for the heat of the summer we have lovely, large, cotton tea towels in a variety of designs. pick up a pair of lemon and lime slices, garden fresh artichoke or eggplant designs or go totally virginia and grab one of the great crab or other sea life designs.
for the first time we are also stocking some of their pillows. my personal favorite, the gold octopus on white linen is here. we also have some beautiful coral and shell designs. i can't imagine these are going to last. the quality and uniqueness of the pillows is just too much to have them hang around. so get by the shop and check them out asap.

[dermond peterson pillows featured in "the best" section of june's house beautiful]
it's a banner month for a group of openhouse designers. you can find them scattered around the best design mags on the shelf right now. looolo is featured in the june issue of dwell (we'll have those pics tomorrow), and a design*sponge feature, while dermond peterson is getting props in house beautiful, along with john robshaw. i love how the designer in the robshaw image used his linens in a totally traditional space. very strong and masculine, yet at the same time, delicate. and stay tuned for new dermond peterson to hit openhouse next month. enjoy! k&m

etsy love...

i've been meaning to showcase this particular etsy artist for quite a while now. the problem is, my etsy love folder is so fat that i'd have to post one a day for the next three months to clear it. anyway...
karen hilton is a london designer making some of the most "wow" pillows i've seen in a long time. the designs are interesting, the colors pop, the quality is superb and the price is right. why not add a little humor to a room? people take design so seriously. so, enjoy the pillows, enjoy the weekend and we'll be back on monday with a whole week's worth of interesting tidbits.
*shameless plug*: we're in the heart of wedding season and i just thought i'd mention that openhouse has some great wedding gifts in stock right now. why would anyone want a salad spinner when they could have a karin eriksson bowl or a j.mendicino vase or some small serving dishes from lorena barrezueta? and mother's day too! get her something unique for once. a set of napkins from flowie or a great beach bag from virginia johnson :o) happy shoppping! k&m

new pillows from john robshaw!!!
i can hardly contain my glee. we have the whole line of pichwai hand painted pillows. they come in 3 sizes: 26 x 26, 20 x 20 and 12 x 20. each one is unique and although we've carried them before, i really think this newest grouping is the most vibrant and interesting of the lot.
new to the shop is the maharaja line of bolsters. too cool for words, really.

and we also got in some new pillowcases in a number of designs. we've noticed that people buy the cases and often not the sheets. it's a great way to get a pop of color, some interest and the luxury of hand block printed linens without the huge cost. just add them to your crisp white sheet set and voila! instant chicness.

we're still waiting on another order of spring '08 pillows (seen below) hopefully arriving at the end of the month, so check back. and as always, if you're not in town and can't make it to the shop, you can call and have it shipped to you. enjoy! and happy shopping! k&m

in the news...

great feature in the march issue of richmond magazine. pick it up on newsstands all over the city. page 42 shows a few openhouse designers: our new campy planters from perch as well as some great spring pillows from three sheets 2 the wind and paper cloud. and don't forget, we still have our spring cleaning sale going on. we've cleared out so much! but you can still scoop up some great deals on a number of wonderful designers. happy shopping! k&m

bev hisey

i'm a little behind on the fair update. ran out of steam yesterday!
but i wanted to make and share this wonderfully-talented designer that we discovered. not new to the scene, just new to us, bev hisey creates some of the most vibrant textiles i've seen. her pillows and rugs and throws are so beautifully constructed and the colors are to-die -for!
we'll get caught up with the last two show highlights this weekend.
enjoy. k&m

pillows, pillows, pillows! nyigf, part 3

there was no shortage of pillows at the fair last weekend. it was almost too daunting to try and sift through them all to post an edited selection. so this is by no means all of what saw, just some of our favorites and some designers we haven't seen before. we've chosen not to include jonathan adler or judy ross. we love their work, but it's a bit over-exposed. and we're missing highlights from john robshaw's new spring '08 collection as well as k studio and henry road's new designs. as soon as i can get some decent shots i'll post them. enjoy! k&m
[images above and below from hable construction]

koko company:
these pillows really caught my eye. vibrant colors, great textures, super soft and hand made in new york. i love how the design extends beyond the pillow. beautiful!

bliss living home:
although not an indie designer, i really liked the hand embroidered pillows from bliss home. we'll be highlighting a couple of their bedding collections as well later in the week.

anupama:
we saw a lot of ethnic-inspired desgins last weekend. and each one was more beautiful than the next. these pillows were truly exquisite. organic, hand painted pillows from canadian designer, anupama. you might have seen her highlighted a while back in domino. so rich and luxurious!

alena hennessy:
we've admired her work online and loved the opportunity to see it in person. for 2008, alena is launching a number of eco-friendly items, which only enhance the beauty of her work. we were especially smitten by her pillows. i love the horse silhouette. so simple, yet so stunning.

dermond peterson:
this sister-duo is so wonderful in person! their excitement for design is contagious and we loved meeting with them and looking at some of the new designs for '08. i don't have an image of it yet, but they have taken the classic pineapple silhouette and gone wild. as the duo said, it's a bit cliché, but that's what makes it so fun. i also got to see the octopus pillows in person! which i just love, as well as a number of summery patterns we're looking forward to carrying.

my perennial:
what a fun find. we were unfamiliar with jen's work before the show and we loved the opportunity to talk with her. she spent 15 months living in hungary, learning the language and getting to know the women who would hand make her stunning pillows. using ol-fashioned techniques to create such modern designs is quite unique. and jen is so passionate. she's dedicated to her concept as well as working with small stores such as ours. we look forward to getting to know her and her designs in the future.

fluf:
a playful canadian design team, fluf makes modern accessories for the home that are totally liveable. their cusions were really simple and stylish, but it's their poufs that grabbed our attention. we'll post about them next week when we talk trends.

balanced design:
and last, but certainly not least, balanced design. they believe that balancing good design with organic materials is the NEW definition of MODERN. and we agree. more of flet wool appliques, as we saw a lot of, but beautifully done. each pillow is unique and delicate. we loved them!
stay tuned for a special pillow post later today highlighting our absolute favorite find at the fair (say that five times fast!)

spotlight on john robshaw

it occurred to me that we've never really posted much about our line of john robshaw bedding and pillows. we just got in 2 new pillows from the pichhwai collection (one of which was featured in the january issue of domino :o) pichhwai paintings are traditionally used to adorn temple walls behind gods and goddesses. these linen pillows are each hand painted and wonderfully delicate while at the same time practical.

we are also carrying the full line of sheets. printed on the finest cotton, pre-washed, and rewashed after printing to make them exceptionally soft and chemical-free, each sheet and pillowcase is hand embroidered by a patient seamstresses in India. 300 thread count cotton. i'm personally using the diggi sea glass in my master and looking to add the pondicherry sage to my guest room. they are just such a luxury! oh, and don't forget the seriously beautiful queen quilt we have in store as well. hand quilted on the finest indian voile and filled with natural cotton, the quilts are so cozy. and as delicate as they look, they are machine washable! too cool.

[clockwise from top left: samode pink, pondicherry sage, diggi sea glass, cinde coffee]
come in and check them out. happy shopping! k&m
