etsy discovery

while wandering through etsy today, I came across this bowl. It comes from a shop called the untrained eye. they sell all sorts of adorable kids tableware, as well as jewelry and a few other things. everything is hand-made and unique, so no two pieces look the same. i love this bowl in particular because of the elephant and the beautiful teal color that is so perfect for summer.

happy shopping! becca

spring has sprung

boxes are arriving in the shop everyday now...full of lots of spring goodies.
yesterday we were so excited to open these porcelain bud vases from
rae dunn for magenta. we had seen them in NYC back in january and
just couldn't wait to get them in. i'm in love with matte finish on the outside
and the shiny glazed interior. and the doodles and text are just so charmingly
rae dunn! they stand on their own quite well, but i'm totally seeing a small
spring bouquet peeking out of mine! happy shopping! k&m

obsess much?

anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed with cream and sugar sets...
i have way too many for someone who takes her tea with honey and her
coffee black... :o)

we carry a rae dunn version in the shop that is on the top of my list.

but this set from etsy seller, wapa studio, is to.die.for. everything
from the varied textures and patterns to the precious ribbon handles
makes me want to rethink how i take my tea!

happy shopping!

this just in...

well, almost just in! we're so excited to get our new polka-dot travel mugs in that we just had to post about them today. as a tea drinker, i'm constantly annoyed that every aluminum-lined travel mug in our house tastes like my husband's coffee! but now i'll have my own double-walled porcelain mug. topped with a silicone lid that looks just like the plastic ones, these are microwave and dishwasher safe and just adorable. we've got two sizes, 9 ounce and 11 and a variety of fun colors. in store and online starting Tuesday!!! happy shopping1 k&m

happy valentine's day

it's taken my least favorite holiday of the year to get me back to the blog! i've never liked valentine's day. for those without a valentine, i've felt it to be such an exclutionalist (i don't think that's a word, but you get it) holiday; and for those with one, a insane excuse to spend money on things you would normally never buy. i don't even particularly like the color red. and there is nothing more generic to me then a dozen red roses. BUT, if i had to play along and my wonderful husband did feel the pressure of society upon him, these are just a few things that might be nice ;o) enjoy! and don't forget to check out www.openhouse-richmond.com to see a selection of our inventory for sale online. all pillows are 20% off through the end of the month! just enter FEB20 at checkout. happy shopping! k&m

bada-bing? you bet!

standing ovation for the richmond craft mafia. they managed to pull off a top-notch event yesterday down at plant zero. the 2008 spring bada-bing was everything they said it would be.

if you weren't able to make it down, i think you really missed out on one of those great moments. it might have been wet and gray outside, but inside it was bright and cheery and lively. the vendors were wonderfully varied and the quality of product on display showed the level to which craft has risen. there was so much to see i was actually a little overwhlemed. so much so that i missed a couple of booths i wanted to see! but it was a good overwhelmed. it made me so proud to be a richmonder and even prouder to be a part of the greater craft/design community.

literally everything there was great, but we did have a few favorites that we wanted to share:

modern june

like i said, it's just a handfull. we didn't even get to all the great jewelry. but you can see how much talent is out there. the good news is, if you missed the show yesterday, you can buy from these designers online. hopefully, in the near future, many of them will also be available at openhouse. so get out there and support local artists and designers as well as local businesses!!
enjoy! and happy shopping! k&m

spring into action

hoping everyone enjoyed a relaxing weekend.

the Shops at 5807 are hosting, along with momentum resources, a great fundraiser this thursday night to benefit the
children's hospital of richmond. it's a cause near and dear to our hearts at openhouse and we would love to see people come out to support it.

The night will kick off at 5pm with a workshop hosted by the ladies at
momentum resources titled: Detours & Onramps - a workshop for Moms in the workforce or looking to return to work. the cost for the workshop is $20.

then at 6pm the doors open for a wine reception, hors d'oeurves and SHOPPING! the cost for the shopping is $25 ($40 for both the workshop and reception), with ticket sales benefitting the hospital. over 25 of the shops will feature new items brought in especially for the night. openhouse will be featuring the spring collection of j. mendicino with a portion of proceeds from the sale of her ceramic vases to benefit children's as well.

so grab some girlfriends, get a sitter and come out and do some spring shopping and support a great organization in this city.

i don't bake cakes, buy cakes or eat cakes for the most part. but lately i've had an insatiable need to have cake stands. i own a great set of vintage glass stands that i received as a wedding gift. but i can't seem to stop bookmarking more and more of them lately. i love glass stands, ceramic, contemporary, vintage, traditional, decorated, plain, whatever the style. so i thought i'd share some great designs i've stumbled across lately. a few of them we might see at openhouse in the future. enjoy! k&m
