falling for autumn - a special guest post

Hey folks! Excited to share a special guest post today from Susi from Design Shuffle. The leaves in VA are just turning and starting to fall, so the timing couldn't be better for these great ideas! Enjoy! And happy shopping!! k&m

Hi, everyone, I’m Susi and I write as a guest blogger for Design Shuffle, a fantastic social media site where you can post pics of your design projects and browse our database of tens of thousands of pics for inspiration for your next project. I love visiting amazing design blogs, like Open House, and sharing ideas. I'm a huge fan of Open House's posts on Etsy finds and wish I lived closer to Richmond to stop by the store. I'm thrilled to be here guest blogging today about autumn interior designs and accents. Falling for fall is easy for me; it's my favorite season. I've pulled together some great ideas for autumn inspired interiors. Enjoy!

Autumn Accents

Falling for autumn is all about celebrating nature's golden season. Bringing the outdoors inside, through colors, patterns and textures is the best way to create autumn accents for your home.

Autumn Accents

To highlight the lovely fall foliage, add warm gold to your décor. Warm metallics like bronze, copper and rose gold are also good choices for metallics for autumn.

Autumn Accents

Adding velvet's and knits to your décor is a sure way to fall for autumn decorating. A thick cable knit throw is so cozy for a favorite reading chair, sofa or bed. Adds such great texture too!

Autumn Accents

Fall for autumn's glorious rich colors by adding accents of curtains and runners to your dining room. Swapping out summer sheers for rich velvet's makes a big difference. Love the plum color.

Autumn Accents

Autumn decorating ideas inspired by nature need not all be riots of foliage colors. Creams and browns are great colors for autumn accents. Look for natural elements that have great shape and texture for interest.

Autumn Accents

Create a harvest vignette in the entry or dining room. This group features a sunflower head (so sculptural) and beautiful earth toned pottery. The potted herb adds a little Tuscan or Napa style.

Autumn Accents

Find creative ways to incorporate fall colors into your décor. So many clever DIY ideas out there on blogs can help you get started.

Autumn Accents

Silvery mercury glass and brown makes a dramatic palette for an autumn interior design. The chalkboard has a vintage back-to-school charm. Images [ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 ]

paper "tiles"

sort of in love with these new paper "tiles" from designer Louise Body.

'the delicate and beautiful new wallpapers have a sense of fun and offer
an economical alternative to decorative ceramic tiles. The designs incorporate
original Victorian tiles enhanced by Louise's color palette and the addition of
her photographs and delicate drawings of flowers. They are printed onto hard
wearing, coated, non-woven paper and would look just as good in an alcove as
they would in a kitchen or bathroom.'

check out more designs here.

happy shopping! k&m

handmade lighting

we're not much for the diy around here. it's why we SELL what other
creative minds make rather than attempt it ourselves. but sometimes a
design element is out of your reach financially and you just have to make
do. while looking for hanging light options, and knowing that George Nelson
was never going to happen, we came across these seemingly easy and utterly
chic diy lamps. actually completing it is one thing, but a girl can dream on this
dreary winter day...

sunday

for years i've imagined having a large antique farm table in the dining room with white or black panton chairs. i love the juxtaposition of form-molded plastic with the natural, heavy wood. i'm always looking around online for a good deal (almost impossible to find). $250 per chair is just not recession friendly. as i was browsing i came across the most interesting place i'd ever found my lovely chairs: church. and since it was sunday, i thought it fitting to post these fabulous pictures from St Bartholomew’s church in Chodovice, Czech Republic. i love the old and the new together like that! how divine ;o) k&m

white

on this oh so gray day in Virginia, i thought to share some images pulled from desire to inspire a while back. i keep looking back at them hoping to gleen some sort of inspiration on how to pull off an all white house. maybe i just don't have the bones or the natural light or the cahones to pull it off. but the images from this victorian london home are stunning and it makes you wonder how anyone could ever call white, cold! enjoy!

martha, martha, martha

if you read this blog regularly, you know i have a love/hate relationship with martha stewart. but my feelings aside, the woman comes up with some seriously cool collaborations.

martha's collection of area rugs, in association with
safavieh, has been on the market since last spring, but it just came on to my radar and i thought it was worthy of sharing. i love how these rugs look worn and comfortable and easily at home with a traditional decor as much as a modern one. oh how i LOVE the faux bois tibetan rug! it's destined for my dining room. anyway, if you're interested you can go on the safavieh website to find a retailer near you. if you're in richmond, the collection is available at rugs direct, 9862 west broad street, glen allen, va. 804.273.0844

afternoon snack

so, the sneak peak into the new designers at openhouse will have to wait until tomorrow when megan and katie can meet to finalize everything. in the meantime, while checking out some of my favorite daily blog reads, i was inspired by desire to inspire. if you aren't familiar with the blog, it's a veritable schmorgasborg of great design pics. if you are ever stumped on what to do in a particular room in your house or you're just bored at work and looking for a pick-me-up, you'll be hooked. lately i've been struggling with incorporating various textiles and patterns together in one space (i.e. our fabulous Robshaw collection that i want in every room of my house). so i took a cue from desire to inspire and hit the net looking for ideas. below are some great color and pattern combos courtesy of domino that i thought i'd share for others of you with the same problem. enjoy! k&m
