new line of textiles available at openhouse

we'd like to introduce you to a great new designer at openhouse: pacific & rose. based in Orange, California, Elizabeth James creates beautiful textiles that she has hand block-printed outside of Jaipur, India. employing age-old techniques, each design comes to life by block carvers, colour master, block printers and seamstresses.

we're happy to carry some AMAZING prints in tea towels, oven mitts, table runners and napkins. come by the shop to see them in person or check out a small selection
online.

i can tell you from firsthand knowledge (after purchasing some tea towels over the holidays) that the great design is matched by great quality. The towels wash well and really stand up to anything in the kitchen. nice to find a product that is not only nice to have out but also tough!

more new arrivals from perch! and india rose coming this week, so stay tuned.

and don't forget, we're still offering 20% off our entire collection of John Robshaw bedding and pillows through the end of the month. lots of people have scored some great items, so don't miss out. happy shopping! k&m

lorcom lane design

an interesting booth caught our eye at the ivy market a couple weeks back. lorcom lane design, a local richmond collaborative, was selling some stunning handmade items. napkins, runners, coasters, pillows and blankets lined their booth. all beautifully constructed with exciting patterns that you don't usually see. we're hoping that we'll have a chance in the future to highlight them in the shop, but until then, visit their etsy site to see more. perfect gifts for the holidays. enjoy! k&m

tons of new goodies from john robshaw. we've got pillowcases and queen sheets in all the available patterns and great new pillows from a variety of his collections. they should be in the shop by the end of the week, so hurry in, they don't usually last long. it's amazing what a new throw pillow or set of cases can do to completely change the look of a bed. you don't have to buy the whole set, just bits and pieces can make an impact and you're not spending a fortune for a little luxury ;o) enjoy! and happy shopping! k&m

new textiles from dermond peterson!!! we're so excited to get some new designs in from this great sister-duo. just in time for the heat of the summer we have lovely, large, cotton tea towels in a variety of designs. pick up a pair of lemon and lime slices, garden fresh artichoke or eggplant designs or go totally virginia and grab one of the great crab or other sea life designs.

for the first time we are also stocking some of their pillows. my personal favorite, the gold octopus on white linen is here. we also have some beautiful coral and shell designs. i can't imagine these are going to last. the quality and uniqueness of the pillows is just too much to have them hang around. so get by the shop and check them out asap.

enjoy! and happy shopping! k&m

[dermond peterson pillows featured in "the best" section of june's house beautiful]

it's a banner month for a group of openhouse designers. you can find them scattered around the best design mags on the shelf right now. looolo is featured in the june issue of dwell (we'll have those pics tomorrow), and a
design*sponge feature, while dermond peterson is getting props in house beautiful, along with john robshaw. i love how the designer in the robshaw image used his linens in a totally traditional space. very strong and masculine, yet at the same time, delicate. and stay tuned for new dermond peterson to hit openhouse next month. enjoy! k&m

etsy love...

i've been meaning to showcase this particular etsy artist for quite a while now. the problem is, my etsy love folder is so fat that i'd have to post one a day for the next three months to clear it. anyway...

karen hilton is a london designer making some of the most "wow" pillows i've seen in a long time. the designs are interesting, the colors pop, the quality is superb and the price is right. why not add a little humor to a room? people take design so seriously. so, enjoy the pillows, enjoy the weekend and we'll be back on monday with a whole week's worth of interesting tidbits.

*shameless plug*: we're in the heart of wedding season and i just thought i'd mention that openhouse has some great wedding gifts in stock right now. why would anyone want a salad spinner when they could have a karin eriksson bowl or a j.mendicino vase or some small serving dishes from lorena barrezueta? and mother's day too! get her something unique for once. a set of napkins from flowie or a great beach bag from virginia johnson :o) happy shoppping! k&m

bada-bing? you bet!

standing ovation for the richmond craft mafia. they managed to pull off a top-notch event yesterday down at plant zero. the 2008 spring bada-bing was everything they said it would be.

if you weren't able to make it down, i think you really missed out on one of those great moments. it might have been wet and gray outside, but inside it was bright and cheery and lively. the vendors were wonderfully varied and the quality of product on display showed the level to which craft has risen. there was so much to see i was actually a little overwhlemed. so much so that i missed a couple of booths i wanted to see! but it was a good overwhelmed. it made me so proud to be a richmonder and even prouder to be a part of the greater craft/design community.

literally everything there was great, but we did have a few favorites that we wanted to share:

like i said, it's just a handfull. we didn't even get to all the great jewelry. but you can see how much talent is out there. the good news is, if you missed the show yesterday, you can buy from these designers online. hopefully, in the near future, many of them will also be available at openhouse. so get out there and support local artists and designers as well as local businesses!!
enjoy! and happy shopping! k&m
